Payments startup Stripe is announcing a new partnership with mobile app development platform Parse. The company is also revealing that its payments platform is being used by Lyft, Exec, SideCar, OrderAhead, Sesame and Postmates to enable payments in their mobile applications. In 2011, Stripe launched its developer-friendly online payments system that allows developers to avoid setting up merchant accounts and dealings with banks, while still ensuring transaction safety. The service has been a hit with developers because of its simplicity. The company not only competes with PayPal, but also Braintree. It is backed by General Catalyst, Sequoia, Peter Thiel, Max Levchin and Elon Musk (and just made its first acquisition). Parse's technology stack powers the backend for mobile apps and is compatible with iOS, Android, JavaScript and Windows 8. The startup allows developers to launch mobile apps quickly and efficiently at scale, rather than worrying about server maintenance or infrastructure management. Through its code library, developers can easily pick and choose tools that enable them to add push notifications, social integration, data storage and custom logic to the back end of their apps. With the integration, Stripe can now be added as a payments option with the 60,000 Parse-powered applications. Stripe recently released iOS and Android libraries allowing for a more seamless payments experience on iPhones, iPads and Android devices. To integrate Stripe with a Parse-powered application, developers create a Stripe token within their mobile app, and then pass the token to a Parse Cloud Code function to create a charge. Parse has also built an open-source iOS app, Parse Store, as a demo of the integration.
